No wine region is more visually stunning than the Cape Winelands. Of course, you can visit to sample the prolific "juice" (which does not disappoint), but you can also experience what the area offers beyond the vines—any terrain suitable for grapes is conducive to many other layers of beauty. Just outside of Franschhoek, lies a "healing farm" by the name of Sterrekopje. A dusty rose palette of wildflowers, expansive gardens, a yurt and hammam, horses and pigs, pottery classes, energy healers, a library, a swimming dam, and world-class chefs ... Sterrekopje takes you back to nature and peace in impeccable fashion. Bohemian vibes meet stylish design and botanical perfection.
I had the honor of attending a Wise Women's Retreat at Sterrekopje with a group of women of all ages, nationalities, and personalities. The farm's charismatic and soulful owners Fleur and Nicole personally led the retreat, along with a team of shamans and healers hand-picked from around the globe, and no touch was left uncurated. I have had extensive exposure to the world of wellness, and nothing has come close to the transformative experience I had at Sterrekopje—to say it was life-changing would be trite yet true. To go into detail would feel like a violation of some sort, or perhaps a fear the lingering magic would disperse. Part of the recipe for each woman is to surrender control and be led on the journey, with no preconceived notions.
Women of any age would benefit from time at Sterrekopje. You could go with your travel companions (male or female) as part of a larger trip to Africa and experience the farm for a couple of days ... the combination of the farm and a safari would be pure synchronicity. Or you could take it to the next level and join a retreat. A couple of women I met did safari with their spouses first and then stayed on alone. Our job is to help curate what speaks to you.
This month Sterrekopje's magic was highlighted by goop and Harper's BAZAAR, so as these exclusive retreats are more widely "discovered", these special opportunities will be few and far between.
